So, summer time is coming up fast and you decided that you want a sexy set of 6 pack abs. This year you want to be able to go to the beach and not have to hide under a baggy top. This article will explain the 6 pack ab workout to help you get that great look.

There are two separate and distinct parts to getting those 6 pack abs. First you must exercise to build the muscle. Second you must lower your body fat (by eating the proper foods and quantity) so that those developed abdominals can be seen. The good news on working your abs is that you do not have to do 1000 crunches a day, seven days a week. You work the abs like any other body part, 3 to 4 days per week, with taking a day’s rest in between. There is a lot more to life than just crunches. The goal is to work all the muscles in the core and develop the entire midsection. Some of the more effective ab exercises are: bicycle exercise, exercise ball crunch, plank, reverse crunch and twisting crunches. Do 1 to 3 sets of 12-16 reps each.

The diet is very important. There is no point is building the abs if they are going to be hidden by a layer of fat. There are enough diet books out there two fill a library. At the most basic level, you must use more calories than you consume in order to lose weight.  3,500 calories equals 1 pound. That sounds like a lot of calories to burn to lose 1 pound, but if you stretch that over seven days that means you must only use 500 more calories than you consume each day. This is a easy number to achieve, and it will allow for a healthy weight loss. I know you probably want t loose 1 pound a day, but that is not good for your overall health. 1 to 2 pounds a week is much better. Eat smaller meals spread evenly throughout the day. Cut down on the sodium. Salt enables us to retain water, and we don’t want that covering up our midsection. Eat more fruit and vegetables, especially when you want to snack.  Cut out the junk food and anything that is high fat. Stay away for refined foods such as white sugar, flour, rice etc. Last tip is to drinks LOTS of water. When you feel hungry, have a glass of water instead. Substitute water for pop (yes even the 0 calorie stuff), juice and alcohol.

7 More Exercises To Achieve Firm, Flat & Sexy Abs

Once you have effectively set your weight loss regime, you must determine a set of exercises to strengthen and tone your abdominal muscles. This will provide them with the body and shape required to form a visible six pack. The following exercises are appropriate exercises to select from.


1) Long Arm Crunch: Lie on the floor, facing the ceiling and extend your arms over your head along the ground, grasping your hands together over your head. Tighten your abdominal muscles and lift your shoulder blades off the floor. Repeat this twelve to sixteen times.


2) Reverse Crunch: Life on the floor facing the ceiling. Hands may be placed flat on the floor beside you or behind the head. Raise your knees towards your chest until your legs are at a 90 degree angle with your body. Tighten your abdominal muscles to lift your hips off the floor. Lower your body and repeat this process twelve to sixteen times.


3) Vertical Crunch: Lie flat on the floor facing the ceiling with your legs extended upwards. Place your hands behind your head and tighten your abs to lift your shoulders off the ground. Raise your heels towards the ceiling to create a U shape with your body. Lower yourself and repeat the process twelve to sixteen times.


4) Bench Crunch: Lie flat on the floor, facing the ceiling with your legs elevated on a bench or another form of furniture and bent at a ninety degree angle. Hold your hands at your temples or extended down besides your legs. Now, raise your head and shoulders towards your knees whilst lifting your pelvis off the floor. Flew your abdominal muscles at the top of the movement and hold for a moment. Lay back down and repeat this twelve to sixteen times.


5) Leg Tuck: Sit sideways on a bench or some form of furniture, grasping the edge for support with your legs hinging over. Raise your legs slightly and straighten them. Hold this position for a moment then lower your legs. Repeat this process twelve to sixteen times.


6) Upright Sit Up: Stand upright with your back straight and hands clasped behind your head. Proceed to bend at the waist (performing the traditional sit up movement) and straighten up. Repeat this process twelve to sixteen times.


7) Scissor Cuts: Lie flat on the floor, facing the ceiling. Place your arms flat at your sides and lift your legs slightly, crossing one over the over. Hold this position, then lower your legs. Repeat this twelve to sixteen times.


Abdominal work outs should be performed twice a week. It is important to remember to alter your work out every eight weeks to ensure the muscles do not become used to the work out, thus rendering the exercises ineffective.


Before commencing with abdominal exercises, it is important to remember to stretch your abdominal muscles. Do this by lying face down on the floor with your elbows bent and hands positioned beneath your shoulders. Straighten your arms so that your back is arched, ensure your legs remain flat on the ground. Turn your head towards the ceiling and hold this position for a period of ten seconds before lowering yourself back to your starting position.

With weights and other machines, there are also several other really good exercises that can add some great variety, help you keep interest in your workouts, and also help to build your ideal abs.

Leg raises are another favorite among gym goers. Just set yourself up with good posture on the appropriate machine and lift the legs. The pressure forces your abs to work out and can help really shape up that part of the body. The abdominal bicycle crunch is another very popular exercise that you might see around. For some people this is easy, but for beginners it might take a while to get the coordination down.

If you have a bench to work with, then there’s a whole variety of additional abdominal exercises that you can do, including: side leg raises, front kicks, bench kickbacks, and rear leg scissors. A gym workout for abs combined with Pilates at home can be a great way to get the full effect of each workout and come out with the abdominal muscles that you’ve been dreaming of.
