Would you like to lose weight fast? Then just do not eat. Did you ever see those pictures of the survivors of Nazi concentration camps? They lost weight didn’t they? And they did it all with the assistance of diets enforced by their captors.
Now I can almost see you shaking your head and saying, “That’s stupid. I’m not in a concentration camp and I can’t make myself just stop eating.”
While starving yourself like a concentration camp prisoner isn’t something you’ll consider, how many people try to lose weight by trying to eat less. Or perhaps just eating celery and carrots or drinking water.
The difficulty is that starvation diets actually do work – for a while. And that’s regrettable because when you weigh yourself, you see that you’ve lost weight and feel that your making progress.
Now you’re about to get suckered by your brain. Your will power will fail. But it will be subtle. Let’s say you’re in your favorite restaurant, McDonalds. You went there to get a salad. You’re standing at the counter and you’re looking at the menu. Your eye drifts over the Angus burger promotion. Boy that sounds good! You think, “You know I’ve lost some weight recently, I think I’ll just reward myself with a nice, juicy Angus burger. I’ll order the salad the next time.” Aren’t those Angus burgers great?
Hamburgers can be really, really good. But you’ve let your discipline slip a little by giving in, just this once, to eating what you really like. The clincher is that when you weigh yourself later that day you are happy to see that you didn’t gain any weight at all. So you put hamburgers on your diet. After all they are high in protein and they help you to eat healthy.
Now here’s the double whammy to your diet.
As you eat less than you really require for good nutrition, your body says “There’s a food shortage. I’ve got to protect myself because I don’t know when the famine will end.” So your body starts consuming muscle. It will save the fat for later. That’s because fat is for an extended emergency.
Since the fat is still in your body, but the muscle goes away, your metabolism drops. Now you must eat less and less to continue to lose weight. And you have less and less energy as well.
There are ways to lose weight, but it’s not suffering through low calorie, low carb, small portion diets.
Losing weight the right way is actually easier than losing weight the wrong way. The other benefit is, that if you lose weight the right way, you’ll keep it off for the rest of your life. Now, wouldn’t that be great?
