Chiropractors in San Diego are revealing the secrets to weight loss. Successful weight loss is not just a matter of shedding the pounds. The emphasis needs to be on eliminating body fat and avoiding reduction of lean body tissue, primarily muscle mass in the body. Why is this the key to long-term weight loss success? This is because muscle requires 15 times the energy compared to fat to survive (7.5 Calories per day for muscle versus 0.5 calories per day for fat). The more lean tissue you have, the more calories one can consume once desirable body weight is achieved. Overall, a moderate diet of at least 1000 calories of high quality food per day and exercise is clearly the best approach. This is because 80% of the weight lost is fat. This plan protects lean body mass which is essential for maintaining weight loss. This is critical to keep from gaining the weight back again.
Regular exercise in moderation is essential. It burns calories. This promotes weight loss. And it makes a body look good overall, inside and out. The payoff is a leaner, more attractive body, with a lower risk of coronary heart disease. However, physical activity by itself may not be enough to lose weight to look and feel better. For best results, it should be combined with a reduced calorie plan, calculated to match an individual’s new physical activity level.
Rapid weight loss can be encouraging at first, but long term results are disappointing. The lost weight (mostly water) rapidly returns, besides diets too low in calories quickly lower the body’s metabolic rule. This makes it even harder to lose weight and much easier to gain it back, creating a “yo-yo” dieting syndrome. More fat is lost when the rate of weight loss is about 2 pounds per week. The number of calories needed to achieve this varies for each person and should be determined on an individual basis.
There are immediate benefits to consuming the right number of calories. First of all, it helps to avoid the hunger, fatigue and grouchiness that so often accompany deprivation of food. It supplies the energy needed to exercise. Trying to exercise on a very low caloric diet is like starving yourself twice – it leads to further loss of lean body tissue. It helps ensure that nutritional needs are met. This is especially important over an extended period of time.
Another important thing to consider is to choose the correct foods. Many body weight reduction nutritional diets encourage avoiding carbohydrates (starchy foods), the body’s primary source of fuel. Such nutritional diets promote rapid reduction of body water for a few weeks. But this can lead to a discouraging body weight plateau, followed by body weight gain from water and sodium retention once carbohydrates are eaten again. A healthy mix of foods, high in complex carbohydrates and low in fat, sugar and alcohol gives the individual the most for their calories plus a higher energy level and better nutrition.
Lifelong body weight control requires more than a simple nutritional diet. A plan is needed that focuses on making changes in behaviors that have contributed to the body weight problem, changes that are realistic and fit each person’s unique lifestyle. The best overall program for most people includes a personal plan of action with specific solutions for permanent change, a program with the right balance of calories and physical activity to lose body weight at an optimal rate, and the personal support they need to succeed. Doing it right helps ensure that the body weight reduction is not just temporary, but a lifelong plan.

Merely in the US alone, possibly somewhere well over forty billion dollars is devoted to problems related to low back pain. In fact, it is realistic that nearly every person has experienced some kind of mild sort of low back pain. Various industries are hit hard on an annual basis with disability and time lost as a result of this problem. When it involves issues that are neurologically associated in the US, only head pain beat back pain. The variety of scenarios can be from a simple strain that persists a day or two completely to the most severe injuries that can result in surgery.
As you can visualize, there are so many different factors that may be found with a low back pain situation. Low back pain can be brought on by disc ruptures, situations concerned with using back muscles too much plus a number of other problems. It is also quite feasible to have a situation that produces a structural imbalance that lasts a long time. The typical result is that the back cannot take it anymore, and subsequently problems begin to surface. What typically happens is the person carries out some kind of minor task, and then experiences a sharp stab of pain.
The types of low back pain varies according to the person and characteristics of injury. There is the sort that is acute discomfort felt instantly. Painfulness that is more chronic could be sharp or low in strength, but it is difficult simply because it is chronic and always present. As is slightly evident, low back pain that is acute usually is caused by some type of injury. These can be significant as this implies a condition in which there’s actual damage, typically. Anyone who has had this understands all too well how painful it can be. There are other similar problems such as a decreased ability to move through normal movements. Probably all of us have observed someone who has to tilt forward just somewhat because that is more relaxing for their back.
Herniated discs in the spine are common and normally caused by repeated motions or those kinds that involve chronic mechanical vibration. Nevertheless, if a person places a very weighty demand on the back muscles, then that may result in this condition. Frequently people are not prepared for these types of shocks to the system, and also many men and women are not in the habit of stretching out their back and leg muscles. A herniated disc are usually very agonizing because it can quite often pinch a nerve along the spinal column.
If you encounter back pain that is lingering it is well-advised to see your doctor regarding it. Obviously any time you do something that produces acute lower back pain, then it is particularly wise to see your family physician. In that kind of scenario, you can easily make matters more painful and cause more damage if you continue to behave like there is no problem. It doesn’t matter what you are raising, or how you are working with your back, there are specific lifting postures that you really should use all the time.

To be able to answer the question “Can a balance ball help alleviate low back pain?”, we should first take a moment to comprehend where low back pain emanates from initially. Lower back pain originates from our back bones, joints, muscles, tissues, and ligaments from everyday movement. Pain can originate in your spine or neck or right down to the lower back and tail bone. This is often attributed from incorrect lifting, poor posture, extended periods of sitting, and perhaps simple things like sneezing. The pain sensation can be excruciating, can quickly come and go or could be chronic. Back pain can extend into our arms, legs, feet, or head and sometimes be mixed with a tingling feeling or numbness.
Our back is a really an important foundational structure in our bodies. It is actually an element of what we call “the core”. The core consists of deep abdominals, obliques, deep spinal musculature, hip flexor group and glutes. This selection of muscles is the foundation of our body support. The weaker these muscles are, the more strain is put on our bones.
If research statistics are correct, a large portion of all Americans will visit the doctor one or more times in their lives for lower back pain, which lets us know our core muscles are quite weak. Just how do we strengthen these muscles? There are many exercises you could perform; however, doing sit-ups on the floor hasn’t ever been comfortable. That is the reason the balance ball is profound, it is the perfect instrument for strengthening our core. It allows us to perform many exercises while, forcing our core muscles to work extra hard, and develop muscle. Another advantage is exercise doesn’t need to be uncomfortable anymore; the air cushion within the ball absorbs the everyday discomfort of exercising on the hard floor or possibly a mat.
So can a balance ball really alleviate lumbar pain? Yes! Many Chiropractors are now recommending that folks use balance balls for back therapy. The main advantages of making use of the balance ball include: A simple solution to moving and regaining motion after having lumbar pain, Improved core muscle strength, Better flexibility and mobility in relation to the spine, Enhanced balance and coordination of the core groups of muscles that support the spine, The balance ball causes movement to the spine within a controlled manor keeping the discs nourished by encouraging circulation surrounding the discs.
The application of the balance ball has increased significantly during the past decade, and utilizing the balance ball for a ball chair at the job or home office has grown to become even more common place.

Up to 80% of all adults will have at least one episode of back pain during their lifetime. Half of those people will never find out the cause of their pain. Back pain affects the majority of people. The most common cause of back pain is a muscular strain or sprain, which is the culprit in around 85% of the cases. Many people will try a variety of home remedies for their back pain, some with very limited success. Others may go to the doctor, however, they will find that the doctors think that 80-90% of all episodes of back pain will clear up on their own, usually in six to twelve weeks time.
There are a number of reasons that people end up with back pain. Some of these include organic reasons like problems with the spine and the muscles that surround and support it as well as other problems including being overweight or having poor posture, a bad mattress or shoes that don’t fit correctly. Each area of the back can have pain that is changed by different reasons and mechanics. For example, upper back pain can be caused by stress or strain. In older women, upper back pain can be related to osteoporosis. Upper back and shoulder pain can be also seen in women with large breasts, especially if they do not have properly fitting bras to support the weight, leaving the muscles in these areas to compensate.
Lower back pain may be caused by arthritis, kidney infection and disease, premenstrual syndrome and from sitting too many hours in a poorly designed or poorly fitting chair. Lower back pain is often caused by weight and by a sedentary lifestyle and is best affected by lifestyle change, including weight loss, a new mattress and better posture. Yoga is also beneficial in helping with back pain.
Back pain is not inevitable and it is not always related to age and everyone does not always get it. There are many superior athletes and active seniors who never have any back pain at all. They accomplish this by reaching and maintaining a healthy weight and by making sure that they keep the back area strong. They also make sure that they are getting good nutrition so that the body has the building blocks that it needs to be strong and resilient no matter what age it is or what it is going through.
The role of nutrients in the body is also a very important factor in preventing back pain. Nutrients all work together to provide the energy that the body needs to move around and to stay active. There are three macronutrients, fat, carbohydrates and proteins, which should be included in a healthy and well-balanced diet for a person. All foods, no matter what they are, can be classified as one of these three. There are good choices and bad choices in all 3 categories. It is important to make sure that you are getting enough food to keep your body healthy and strong to prevent disease. You need to make sure that you are getting the correct nutrition so that you are well and able to be active. It is significant that you lose any excess weight, not only to protect your back from pain but to protect yourself from a number of diseases and conditions that can be directly related to being overweight. It starts with knowing how much food you should actually be eating every day and then knowing how to divide that amount amongst each of the nutrients. At New Century Spine Centers in San Diego, the chiropractors regularly have nutrition and back care classes to help people with back pain. It is also important to know what a good choice is for each of the nutrients and what is not.

Chronic back pain frequently results from a variety of common health disorders. These include herniated or bulging discs, sciatica, posterior facet disease, and long term degenerative disc disorders. Many of these problems share one common source. The common source is compressed vertebral discs. These discs supply a much-needed protection between the spinal vertebrae. As they get weakened and swollen, the condition can easily develop into chronic pain that does not go away.
The primary and most common method of treatment is to just use medications to help with the pain. The drawback with these prescriptions is the fact that the pain relief they supply is only short-lived. Eventually, patients develop a tolerance to these types of pills and therefore have to use larger and larger doses of ever more potent pain medications. These kinds of remedies do not actually heal the actual underlying problem. They only cover up the symptoms.
Others try spinal disc surgery. Unfortunately, the actual advantages of these surgeries has been the topic of heated debate. Some people simply recover better than others, and others never recover from this kind of operation. Some even get worse from the surgery. There can be no guarantee that this surgical procedure will be effective. There is also quite a bit of risk involved in going through it. For some patients, the pain will get more intense just from the surgery.
Many people who have low back and neck pain come to think that they will live with the pain forever. They give up on doctors and surgeons, and basically try to just cope with it. Doing so is really a large trigger for emotional problems. Some people experience anxiety and depression.
Over the past decade there has been the development of a new health-related technology capable of helping many cases of spinal compression disorder in many patients with back pain. It is referred to as non-surgical spinal decompression therapy. This is accomplished via the use of unique spinal decompression machines. Treatment with spinal decompression equipment can usually bring rapid relief of chronic back and neck pain without all the risks associated with surgery and medication.
A normal course of non-invasive spinal decompression therapy will last a few months. Some people experience a much faster recovery from their pain from spinal decompression therapy. This is an extremely encouraging medical technology used by some orthopedists and chiropractors. Spinal decompression treatment offers a major improvement in the treatment of chronic back pain.

Spinal traction can be accomplished in a number of different ways. Let us walk through different methods of spinal traction including massage chairs. Traction or stretching requires a force. This can be a bending force or a pulling force. The purpose of traction is to stretch out the soft tissues between joint surfaces. When looking at spinal traction, the key is to exert a force which stretches the soft tissues.
The most common form of spinal traction used is a pulling force. Typically, the patient is laid on their back and their hips are held and a force is exerted on the shoulders and head. A spinal decompression machine is typically used to exert a pulling force on the patient spine by stretching the patient when they are supine.
A spinal decompression machine works on a theory of extending the disc in unison from top to bottom. The machine is exerting a force on both ends of the spine which pulls apart the cervical discs and stretches the soft tissues. This is also the more common thought of mechanical traction.
Inversion therapy is another method commonly used to provide traction of the spine. The basic idea behind inversion therapy is to suspend you upside down by your feet. You can either wear boots or lay flat on an in version bed. With the boots, one must lock them onto a bar which requires a little gymnastics.
Now with inversion therapy the force to elongate the soft tissues is a pulling force. By suspending the individual by their feet, the force of gravity and the weight of the patient are used to apply traction. Inversion boots only apply the full force using the combination of gravity and body weight.
Roller tables are commonly used to apply traction across the length of the spine. In this case, a patient is laid down on the table. The table is activated, and a roller passes up and down the length of the patient’s spine.
When using a roller table, a mechanical force is applied with the use of a roller. The roller causes a bending of the soft tissues. This occurs when the roller passes and causes the cervical disc to deflect. This deflection stretches and elongates the soft tissues.
When a massage chair applies traction to the spine, it is also passing a roller. The roller is activated to go up and down the individuals spine. As the roller moves across the spine it will deflect the cervical discs. This mechanical bending force is used to stretch the soft tissues.
Massage chairs can apply this type of mechanical traction to the spine. They are using gravity as the pulling force over the top of the roller. The roller causes the cervical disc to deflect when the roller passes. The soft tissues are then stretched which is the definition of mechanical traction.
Massage chairs are also able to provide a number of other treatments in addition to spinal traction. Massage chairs have a full array of massage treatments and programs. Additionally heating elements are placed throughout the chair soothing warmth can be applied as needed. Massage chairs also have stretching of the lower body. Massage chairs also come with MP3 players which can provide a relaxing environment for the patient.
A variety of different treatments are provided with a massage chair. Massage chairs have many different massage techniques. These massage techniques can be to target specific muscle groups. They can also be adjusted in intensity. Massage chairs provide consistent massage therapy to patients. Massage also provides patients with other treatments including lower body stretching, heating and music therapy.

Almost ninety percent of adults all over the world experience a certain level of back pain. For some, it may be a passing condition, while for others, back pain has become their nightmare. There are three different degrees of back pain in terms of duration namely acute, sub acute, and chronic. Among the three, chronic back pains are the longest to treat. While there are different signs and symptoms for chronic back pains, not all are actually related to back problems.
Among the symptoms of chronic back pains, lumbar strain is perhaps the one that occurs more often. Commonly called as lower back pain, lumbar strain is actually a result of injuring the minor back muscles by engaging to strenuous physical activities such as sports or construction work. While a lumbar strain may usually be relieved by rest, most people who suffer from it have difficulties sitting and standing for extended hours.
Another symptom for chronic back pain is spinal stenosis. It is quite more severe than the common lumbar strain and may result to pains not limited to the back but ones that spread down to the hips, the legs, and feet. It may also result to a loss of bladder and bowel control. Spinal stenosis is actually the compression of the spinal canal, which result to the contraction of the spinal nerves as well. While spinal stenosis may be an accompanying warning sign for other spinal disorders like osteoporosis, it is normally a condition that occurs with aging.
Sometimes, chronic pains felt in the back are actually not associated with spinal or back problems but are caused by some other underlying condition. This is usually termed as referred pain. Pain referred in the back may vary in degree and would usually come and go depending on the real cause. Since the brain cannot fully identify specific source of pain, you should watch out for symptoms related to appendicitis, urinary tract infection, kidney stones, and even pelvic infections because these conditions are usually accompanied by back pain as well.
Chronic back pain is among the top reasons why people go and visit the doctor. In fact, in the United States alone, nine out of ten people have a risk for back pain. The common risk factors listed for the condition are a poor posture, lack of physical exercise, too much alcohol and tobacco consumption, and obesity.
It is normal for an athlete, a construction worker, or a busy mom to experience chronic back pains. However, if you do not find a clear reason for the back pain you are suffering right now, it is best that you have yourself diagnosed by a specialist.

Bench Press is literally the Benchmark to gauge your Strength. I am going to share some cool tips I use to help my members increase their Bench Press faster.
If you want bigger chest and shoulder, then there is no substitute to flat bench press. It simply is the best – time tested and proven. Period.
Simple Things you can do right now
My first key is – Technique, technique, technique. Do not just blindly follow the big guy you see pressing poundages. He might have well started like that. No use following him. Lets get you started.
1. Right Technique is the Key
Grip is as important as your bench support if not more. A proper grip will not only help you lift more but also lift safely without any untoward accidents.
Use a proper closed overhand grip for best results. Also since you want to use all the muscles your body can use to lift more, make sure your feet are planted on the ground, back is slightly arched and barbell right over your eyes when arms are extended.
2. Are You Lost in the World of Reps and Sets?
Shooting for the correct weight and number of repetitions is essential if you want to improve your bench press in the fastest method possible. Having the most weight on the bar as you can handle and lifting it in the a few reps is more beneficial than having less weight and doing more reps.
This is because the heavier the weight, the more your muscles will be worked and torn. Each time, they build themselves back a little stronger. With that being said, be sure you don’t take on more than you can handle at any one time, or you could end up with an injury.
3. Check if you are progressing as planned
It is a good idea to evaluate your progress as you go through your journey to improve your bench press. Most people understand the benefits of setting short term and long term goals. However, they may not realize they need to assess their growth along the way.
Every week or two you should check back on your workout details from your journal to see how well you are progressing.
4. Eat to Press Harder not to Get Fatter
Eating the proper diet for muscle building can help your body gain the strength needed to increase your bench press. Most people think they understand the workings of the body and how to adequately fuel it to increase muscle mass.
The best post workout nutrition is to consume a workout shake with 30 grams proteins and 50 grams carbohydrates or make one that contain the desired calories.
5. Grow Your Muscle While Resting
Rest is a very important component in your quest to improve your bench press. Muscles tear and become injured each time you lift weights. Therefore, you want to give muscle groups at least two days rest in between workouts.
This does not mean you have to stay away from the gym while you are in your rest period. Instead, work out different muscles each day. This way you will always have a muscle group that is ready to go every day you hit the gym.
So what are you waiting for champion. Go get that Bench press max.

Are you lazy? Come on. I’m sure you look for the quickest and easiest way to get things done. You can admit it and it will be our little secret! Well, even if you aren’t “lazy,” For example, if you had these two weight loss programs – that work equally as well – which one would you pick…
Here is option number one. You have to wake up at 5:00 a.m. every day and run 5 miles, then you eat almost nothing for breakfast, then almost nothing for lunch, then you work out like a dog for 2 hours after work, and eat a teeny tiny dinner. Then, you go to bed and do it all over again tomorrow. And you do this every day. Or…
Here is option number two. You take a pill and you sleep late and you wake up skinny. Obviously, you’d probably choose the second choice. Any sane person would – as long as the “pill” was safe. Anyways, you get the point. Well, there is no “pill” that works like that. But, a study has just been published that claims sleeping is a very important part of weight loss.
In fact, studies from the University of Chicago showed dieters who slept for 8.5 hours lost 55 percent more body fat than dieters who slept only 5.5 hours. The authors of the research study stated, “Lack of sufficient sleep may compromise the efficacy of typical dietary interventions for weight loss and related metabolic risk reduction.”
Researchers believe sleep may influence levels of a hormone called ghrelin. Increased levels of this hormone have been shown to boost appetite and add to fat retention. The subjects in this study who slept fewer claimed to be hungrier than those who slept extra. According to the study’s authors:”Together, these results suggest that the loss of sleep at times of limited food intake amplifies the pattern of ghrelin associated changes in human hunger, glucose, fat utilization, and energy metabolism.” It should be noted the sample size in this research study was little and further research on this subject is needed to make definitive conclusions.
