Options when you have a skin yeast infection

Posted by Natasha Tishee on February 10th, 2011 and filed under diet | Comments Off

A skin yeast infection can have several triggers that cause it such as; excessive sweating antibiotics stress birth control pills a weakened immune system steroids hormonal imbalance harsh chemicals / scented soaps or products damp clothing It is important to find out and control this trigger when considering your options in dealing with a skin yeast infection. Otherwise you can treat it and without removing the trigger, it can happen again.

Options for treating a skin yeast infection depend on person preference and how severe it is. It is a good idea though to have a doctor give you a proper examination and diagnosis before you try treatment, whether it by conventional drug based or more natural remedies. Be sure to describe symptoms to them, they can include a rash, scaling, redness, inflammation, soreness, itching and flaking.

While a skin infection may not need urgent medical attention, there are times when more severe symptoms may occur. If you experience further symptoms that include fever, discharge, vomiting these need immediate medical attention as they may indicate internal problems with your kidneys or appendicitis.

Skin yeast infection is as it name suggests an infection that can occur anywhere on the skin, in the mouth, (also called Thrush) under breasts, in folds of skin, under arms and so on. When you visit a doctor be sure to tell them all of your symptoms and it is likely they will be able to make a diagnosis from that and from looking at the infection. If it is a more severe case, or you have a weak immune system tests may be done to send to a lab and you may be put on medicated yeast infection treatment.

Alternative treatments are out there, natural remedies are popular and effective including yogurt, raw garlic, boric acid and tea tree oil. Whilst taking a treatment and dealing with your trigger try to eat a healthy diet that includes lots of green vegetables, drink lots of water, cut out sugar and eat more probiotic yogurt. This will all help your immune system.

Caring For Your Body During A Yeast Infection.

Posted by Natasha Tishee on October 18th, 2010 and filed under diet | Comments Off

Did you know that every woman has yeast that grows naturally inside her vagina? So you may be wondering how a yeast infection occurs if you are supposed to have yeast. Well these infections are usually set off by an event, it could be simply that you are wearing the wrong type of under garments, you took a prescription antibiotic or even had more stress in your life than you normally do.

Some of the symptoms that are associated with these infections are a painful burning sensation, extreme itching and a strong odor with or without a thick discharge. There are two specific organic treatments that we will be looking at today.

Apple cider vinegar- apple cider vinegar isn’t difficult to use at all as a treatment for yeast infections. Apple cider vinegar is a fantastic to use since it is really just a natural astringent. I always suggest that you try to purchase a very large bottle as you do tend to use it in larger quantities; however it should also be noted that you should buy raw or unpasteurized/filtered as it tends to be stronger. When you are ready to use the vinegar, you can start by pouring at least two cups into a very warm bath that is otherwise just plain water. (Don’t add any soaps or perfumed oils) The other way that we should be using this is to pour one cup of the vinegar and one cup of water into a bowl and with a wash cloth, gently clean the area. This may sting a bit because the area is irritated.

Yogurt- Whenever you are having a flare up of symptoms try to use plain sugar free yogurt to reduce the symptoms both internally and externally. For relief inside apply a tampon that has yogurt on it for a short time. When you pain is outside massage some on the affected area.

Make sure that while you are treating your infections that you are drinking lots of water and getting plenty of rest (even though you don’t have a fever you still have an infection) and eat a high fiber low carb diet and you will feel better soon!

The Symptoms Of Yeast Infections Are The Worst!

Posted by Natasha Tishee on October 17th, 2010 and filed under diet | Comments Off

When I think about yeast infections, I think about all of the symptoms that go along with it. The itching and burning, the soreness and the finally the discharge that is uncomfortable and embarrassing. There are so many over the counter products to treat yeast infections but if any of them actually worked then why would we need so many? After talking to my doctor about some alternative treatments he recommended that I try these three. I wanted to share them with you as they have really made a difference in the length of time my yeast infections last.

Organic yogurt- needless to say, I was a little surprised when I heard about using yogurt as a treatment option for yeast infections. The doctor told me that many women he knew of had used this and no longer had reoccurring infections. The first thing that you should know is that you need to be sure that all of your yogurt is sugar free. Anytime that you are having issues that are inside your body you should take a fresh tampon that has yogurt on it and insert it into your vagina.

For any kind of internal issues he recommended that I take a tampon and dip it into the yogurt then wear the tampon. He did mention that yeast can actually grow more quickly when it’s exposed to sugar.

Garlic- Right after my doctor mentioned this to me I suddenly remembered that I had read about using garlic to treat infections before. This is an excellent treatment option as garlic has many anti fungal properties that should help to treat the infection quickly. The ways that the doctor recommended that it be used are to mash some into a fine paste that is placed around the irritated area or you could wind a bit of gauze around it and place it inside of your vagina for a little while.

Honey- this is best used in its natural form. Try to find unpasteurized honey from local farmers markets or organic specialty Shoppe’s. This honey needs to be place right on top of the area that is affected by the infection.

Can My Diet Really Affect My Yeast Infection!?

Posted by Natasha Tishee on October 6th, 2010 and filed under diet | Comments Off

For the most part the only part of our diet that we really pay attention to is our fat content, right? Well, women who suffer from any type of yeast infection whether it’s a mild irritation or a full blown infection need to be more careful with certain aspects of their diet. Your consumption of certain foods can have a direct impact on the severity and duration of your infection. Today we are going to look at what types of foods you should eliminate from your diet if you want to permanently stop your yeast infections.

These foods should not be eaten during infections. Sugar- I love sweet things and this is absolutely the hardest one for me! Any time you have an infection you shouldn’t add any sugar to your coffee or even eat any fruits. Yes, even foods that have natural sugars in them need shouldn’t be eaten when you have an infection. This is because yeast thrives on sugar and you could actually make your infection worse by continuing to eat these foods.

Carbohydrates- just like raw or refined sugar carbohydrates are eventually turned into sugar by the body. Sorry ladies but this means that foods that contain white four, starch of any kind and potatoes are off limits. Bacteria love to feed off of different kinds of bacteria and yeast as well. With this being said there is a tremendous amount of bacteria and yeast in things like mushrooms or even alcohol.

Be sure that you remember to not eat anything that has white flour in it; bakery products that are sweetened and even white flour tortilla chips. Sometimes sugars are hard to spot in these foods since they can be called other things like corn syrup or masked as artificial sweeteners. Don’t be fooled, these are still sugars; they are just in a different form.

Whatever you do make sure that you stay away from bakery products with any kind of sweeteners in them. All kinds of breads, any type of white flour tortilla and most pitas. These fake sugars are the hardest to watch out for as they can sneak their way into almost anything. Look for anything on the label that says syrup or dextrose- don’t be fooled! They most certainly are sugars too and they can do just as much damage to your yeast infection treatment plans.

Confused By The Endless Amounts Of Over The Counter Treatments?

Posted by Natasha Tishee on September 28th, 2010 and filed under diet | Comments Off

Many of today’s top over the counter yeast infection treatments are so loaded with toxic chemicals that many women are beginning to wonder if it’s even safe for them to put inside their bodies. They are tired of trying to navigate so many different products in the drug store and they don’t want to take prescription medications as this alone can sometimes worsen your yeast infections. So what are these women going to do? Well, many of them have decided to turn to a more natural solution and seek out homeopathic remedies that have been available for centuries.

Garlic! We love garlic because it can be used in a variety of ways. The easiest way to use it just to eat larger amounts than you normally would. Another way is to take a few peeled cloves, crush them up into a paste and rub it directly into the area that is irritated. Finally, you could always peel a clove and wrap it up in gauze and gently insert it into your vagina for a short time. These have all been known to help clear up yeast infections very quickly.

Yogurt is another readily available treatment option that can be used with ease. The yogurt is used in almost the same way as the garlic is. Eaten in large amounts this too will help to restore the yeast balance in the vagina. It is also great for soothing that burning itch that is associated with yeast infections when it is applied directly to the area. Lastly you can dip a tampon in some plain yogurt and place it inside your vagina.

Lastly, we are going to talk about using tea tree oil. This is very simple as all you need to do is place a few drops on the end of a tampon and place it inside your vagina.

Please note that if you have never been treated by a doctor for a yeast infection or if you have never been formally diagnosed with a yeast infection then it is very important that you are seen prior to beginning any new treatment plan.

Focus On Your Diet To Remain Infection Free!

Posted by Natasha Tishee on September 25th, 2010 and filed under diet | Comments Off

As women; we fret and worry over the health and well being of our families but often we will neglect our own health. For example, how many times have you thought that you may have the beginnings of a yeast infection? You may have ignored signs or chosen instead to go to the store and purchase ointments or creams with so many chemicals that you couldn’t even pronounce them all? Well, if you had known that by focusing on a well balanced healthy diet you could have avoided that.

Before exploring any natural or home remedies for any illness, be sure to see your physician for a formal diagnosis as at times the symptoms that you are experiencing may be a part of a larger issue with your health.

Feel free to try these common remedies after you have spoken to your Doctor:

1. Foods that are acidic are best to be avoided while you have an active infection. Its best to focus on eating things that are alkaline based such as nuts like almonds, green juices and green vegetables. In addition to this there are some specific minerals that should also be consumed as well. These include Potassium, sodium, magnesium and calcium. These all aid in restoring the natural pH level found in the vagina.

2. It’s long been known that you should eat yogurt that is all natural and pro-biotic. The best way to eat this is without added sugar or artificial colors and flavors.

3. Beta-carotene is another well know substance that is can help heal your infection. Some great examples of these foods are: sweet potatoes, pumpkins, mangoes, carrots, broccoli and apricots.

4. Foods that are highly processed and or contain refined sugars need to not be eaten during times that your are prone to yeast infections. Candy, processed honey, white rice and white flour are all considered part of that group.

5. Stay away from anything that has yeast in it like; pickles, canned vegetables and anything that is preserved in vinegar.

You Have A Yeast Infection – Now What ?

Posted by Natasha Tishee on August 19th, 2010 and filed under diet | Comments Off

After you have found out you have a yeast infection you may experience feelings of disgust and shame, but this infection is not a sign of poor hygiene or a criticism of you. Yeast infections are a common occurrence particularly in women. Treatment is easy and for most cases completely effective, just make sure you act quickly rather than burying your head in the sand. The infection will not go away without treatment.

The overgrowth of the fungus Candida Albicans is how a yeast infection happens, and this fungus lives on all of us in low numbers harmlessly most of the time. The low numbers are maintained by the good bacteria, but if these are killed, the balance is lost and overgrowth takes place. Like other forms of fungus it prefers dark, warm and damp areas to live, which is why yeast infections tend to happen in such places as the anus, penis, vagina, folds of skin, under arms and the mouth.

Symptoms include redness, irritation and itching. Less common symptoms include weight gain, pain when urinating, depression, rash, migraines, insomnia, food allergies and even skin problems such as psoriasis and eczema.

One of the key triggers are antibiotics or rather prolonged use of antibiotics. By their very nature they are meant to kill bacteria, and some antibiotics cannot identify just bad bacteria, they will just kill all bacteria. This means the good bacteria levels are lowered allowing overgrowth of the fungus to occur. If you are on a long course of antibiotics try topping up your good bacteria by taking probiotic supplements or by eating plain live yogurt. Other things you can do to prevent an infection include avoiding things like feminine sprays, scented soaps, harsh detergents, perfumed softeners and douching. Swift treatment is important to prevent further health issues and because the longer you leave it the harder a yeast infection is to clear up.

There are natural remedies you can try or there are medicated treatments including stronger drugs from your doctor or weaker ones from over the counter at a pharmacy. Usual forms are cream, pill or suppository and courses range from 1 day up to 7 day treatment. As well as treating the symptoms you also need to look at and deal with the key trigger of your fungus overgrowth. Other things you can do at home to help is flush out toxins by drinking lots of water, sleep well, eat well, and avoid lingering in wet clothing or wearing overly tight clothing, or synthetic material underwear.

Thrush – The Facts Including Treatment And Prevention

Posted by Natasha Tishee on August 19th, 2010 and filed under diet | Comments Off

When a yeast infection is oral (in the mouth) it is sometimes called Thrush. The yeast infections are particularly common in the vagina – they simply thrive in warm and moist parts of the body – folds of skin in the obese, the genitals, the anus and of course the mouth are all places more likely to show symptoms of the fungus, Candida Albicans overgrowth.

Causes of Thrush: Nearly all people actually have small amounts of candida already in our bodies, in our digestive tracts, on our skin, in our mouth. The growth of this fungus is kept under control by good bacteria we also have, so the fungus is usually harmless. When something happens to destroy the balance between the tow microorganisms such as medications, an illness or diet for example, the candida seizes the opportunity to multiply and its overgrowth leads to a yeast infection. Things that can cause the imbalance to occur are prolonged use of antibiotics or corticosteroids, birth control pills, diabetes, HIV, cancer treatment, and even pregnancy as there is a large hormone imbalance during that time.

The key symptoms: – White patches in the mouth on the inside of the cheeks, the gums, the throat, the roof of the mouth and the tongue; pain when swallowing; difficulty eating and drinking; lesions beneath the white spots that bleed.

Preventing Thrush: There are things you can do to help prevent an infection of the mouth happening. Keeping excellent oral hygiene is important, which involves brushing twice a day as well as flossing. Mouthwashes are not a good idea as they upset the balance of microorganisms in the mouth and may deplete good bacteria making you more likely to get a yeast infection. Smoking is not good and if you are a smoker your odds of getting Thrush are higher.

Treatments: Yogurt is great for soothing the symptoms. Use the live bacteria kind and it will top up the good bacteria in your mouth to help fight the fungus. However you also need to deal with the root of the infection – find out what caused it in the first place and make lifestyle changes. There are over the counter treatments that can be tried, and if these do not work, visit your doctor for something stronger.

Curing Candida – Don’t Let It Stop You From Living

Posted by Natasha Tishee on August 14th, 2010 and filed under diet | Comments Off

Yeast infections are not a comfortable thing physically or verbally. Women in particular suffer from them, but as common as vaginal yeast infections are, women still do not like to discuss them or admit to them. But you are not alone and it is not something that should embarrass you. Seventy five per cent of women have dealt with a yeast infection or will have to, and doctors see it all the time. Treatment for yeast infections can be just as frustrating as the infection itself as many women are not happy with over the counter products anymore. They are looking for information on how they got the infection in the first place, and what can they do from home, so this article will provide it.

A yeast infection is caused by a fungus called Candida Albicans. This fungus lives naturally on our bodies but in controlled numbers. Changes in hormones, good bacteria levels, lower immunity can all trigger an overgrowth of the fungus and this leads to a yeast infection. The vagina is the perfect place for the infection, it is warm and moist. Symptoms include a discharge that is heavy, burning, itching, redness and swelling.

First of all since the vagina is such an ideal moist and warm area for the fungus to overgrow and cause a yeast infection make sure you maintain excellent hygiene practices, keep it clean and dry. When using products in that area like sanitary pads or tampons use unscented. Chemicals will just upset the balance and cause an infection. Also try to let the area breathe by wearing loose clothing and cotton panties.

Try over the counter treatments if you want to which usually come in the form of pills, creams or suppositories, but know there are natural ones that are just as effective and are cheaper and have no side effects. Garlic, yogurt, tea tree oil are just three possibilities there are many others.

You may find that the first treatment you try is ineffective but don’t just give up and let your yeast infection go unchecked, it will only worsen. Keep trying treatments until you find one that is effective for you.
